Quoteworthy: “You will not believe what just happened. Because next week is going to be a doozy. Maybe that’s exactly what they were doing. It was the best aspect of “Pepperwood”, but it still just felt like the creators were filling time until something better could happen. And Nathan Corddry ( Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Harry’s Law), guesting as creepy Edgar, was fantastic. Julius Pepperwood was downright hilarious. It was funny, and it was sweet that Nick was so worried about Jess.
Yes, the pogo situation is something that could, feasibly, come up (if you’ll pardon the pun) among flatmates, but I don’t think it deserved to have the share of the 22 minutes that it got.Īs for Nick and Jess’s strand of the episode, I’m a bit flummoxed. Although they’re usually hilarious together, their interactions in “Pepperwood” feel trite and a little dull.
While I appreciate the purpose behind this – Nick and Jess are spending more and more time together as they fall for each other – it feels like something that could, eventually, become a formulaic aspect of the show. I was bored of Winston and Schmidt constantly being thrown together. Unfortunately, audiences can’t read it in real life, but the show occasionally drops details about The Pepperwood Chronicles that even the most dedicated New Girl fan might have missed.

Maybe it’s because I know that the next one I watch will feature the ‘oh dear god, FINALLY’ kiss between Nick and Jess, or maybe it’s just because it simply wasn’t up to snuff but, for the first time since I started watching the show, I was a little bored. The Pepperwood Chronicles is a YA book series about Julius Pepperwood a Chicago cop turned detective in New Orleans. New Girl disappointed me with this episode.
